Dorothy: How can you talk if you haven’t got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don’t know…But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking…don’t they?

These are some sites I think are useful to separate the meaniful wheat from the partisan chaff. If you know of any others, post them in the comments section and I'll check them out and add them to the list!

Snopes.com
Lots of myth debunking. An extensive site with lots of urban legends (not just political ones), it appears to be the work of a husband and wife team. Very well researched and balanced. My favorites include the great Boston molasses flood of 1919 and the The Great Stork Derby of the 1930s in Canada (wealthy guy bequeathed his estate to whichever woman gave birth to the most babies in the ten-year period following his death). I often cite snopes.com when I post political articles.

FactCheck.org
Just found this site. describes itself as 'a nonpartisan, nonprofit, "consumer advocate" for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics'. Has a good pedigree: The Director, Brooks Jackson, pioneered the ``adwatch'' and ``factcheck'' form of stories at CNN, which debunked false and misleading political statements starting with the presidential election of 1992. The Annenberg Political Fact Check is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania.
Conservative Group Engages in Class Warfare Vs. Kerry
03.10.2004
Citizens United TV ad calls Kerry a "rich, liberal elitist." But Bush is rich, too. So was George Washington.

Would Bush Eliminate Overtime Pay for 8 Million?
03.05.2004
A TV ad from an anti-Bush group says so. But it's based on a study that actually says something different.

Spinsanity.org
This is a site based off a weekly column by various authors who tear holes in partisan rhetoric.
  • Sean Hannity: "Let Freedom Ring is troubling evidence that Hannity won't let a little thing like truth get in the way of his rapid ascent."
  • Michael Moore: "This isn't satire, it's paranoid propaganda."
  • Ann Coulter: "Those with a talent for inflammatory rhetoric rather than facts have their fingers on the pulse of contemporary political debate."
  • Al Franken vs. Rich Lowry : SpinSanity hosted an essay debate between the two where they critiqued each other. Neat stuff.
The latest articles they had include:
