Apparently a 17-year-old named Mike Rowe is getting threatened with legal action because Microsoft of his site, MikeRoweSoft.com(say the name out loud). Microsoft offered him ten dollars to transfer his domain name and Rowe refused for less than ten thousand, claiming he had already spent a lot of time and effort on his part-time business, including spending money to print stationary. Microsoft then accused Rowe of making the business just to get bought out from Microsoft and sent him a 25-page ...

spoilers i guess... . . . . I caught a marathon of Real World/Road Rules Challenge on MTV during the holidays. I was entertained, but the later episodes had me glued. Basically the former castmembers from the two shows compete in reality TV challenges for a chance at cash for their team. Then at the end each team votes in a player to the Gauntlet . The winner of the Gauntlet stays in the game, but the loser is forced off the show and gets none of the prize money. The team that loses the ...

Hey out there. Some people out there read a poorly written conspiracy article on some funky conspiracy site that mentions the possibility of remote controlled planes and Mormons and Jews involved in the WTC and get very confused. Now to say with absolute certainty about someone usually leads to the person saying it to looking foolish. But be warned what I am going to say might be offensive to you: if you think 9/11 is a government plot, you're dumb . Really dumb. Drool on yourself dumb. N...

There is a neat article in the New York Times (free registration required) on Jonathan Blattmachr. Apparently he is a superstar lawyer who specializes in finding loopholes in the tax code for the rich. Normally I hate these guys, but at least he speaks out on some of the biggest loopholes. And when he sees something in the code he considers egregious, he speaks up, as he did when he objected to the repeal of the estate tax. The repeal would ''shift the tax burden from the wealthy to ev...

Reservists and citizen-soldiers stand ready, in every free nation, to stand to the colors and die in holocaust, the big war. Reservists and citizen-soldiers remain utterly reluctant to stand and die in anything less...The man who will go where his colors go, without asking, who will fight a phantom foe in jungle and mountain range, without counting, and who will suffer and die in the midst of incredible hardship, without complaint, is still what he has always been, from Imperial Rome to scepter...

Battlefront.com released their Combat Mission: Afrika Corps Demo yesterday! A very fun game series, CMAK is a very realistic turn-based World War II wargame, the third in a series. Head to the bf.c download page . I'll describe the CM series in general then the CMAK demo at the end. The CM Series The turns in CM are resolved simultaneously. So what happens is you give orders while your opponent does the same. Then the action for the next 60 seconds is computed and shown as a movie you ...

Christmas in less than two months. Time to buy stuff. I used to like buying gifts but lately my joy in gift giving has gone down since I had a bad streak last year and I don't think many people liked the gifts I gave them. Oh well, they're family, so they're stuck with me. Anyway, I am about halfway finished after going mall tripping this weekend. At least my 2 nieces are easy to please. For people like me, you can always try this site I found: Gift élan This site seems helpful in choos...

So I was bored and going through the referrals at the bottom of my articles. I was interested to see that a lot of referrals had my blog site listed fairly high. In one case a site I listed as a great resource was listed below my site. Amazing. Now I know that google ranking is based on link popularity of a website and not on my skills as a writer. For those of you that don't know what I just said, basically, google weights what results to give you based on what pages have the words yo...

warning: I am assuming you saw Alien and Aliens already, so don't come crying if I spoil any surprises for you. The director's cut of Alien is out in theaters. I never saw it in its entirety on TV and may go see it in theaters. Why am I not sure I'll go? Well, the first Alien movie I saw was the sequel: Aliens , an intense sci-fi action thriller and one of my top two favorite movies. The first time I saw a chestburster was in that movie. So seeing the original will lose some of it...

I was merrily scrolling through my Add/Remove programs list trying to free some hard drive space by deleting unused programs. I am a virtual packrat, hoarding programs "just in case", or "maybe one day I'll use it". Towards the end I see a program called Viewpoint Media Player . Never downloaded and installed this. Never saw it before. Immediately I knew it was some junk spyware program that somehow got onto my system and didn't get caught by my spyware deleting programs. So, like any sen...

Joan is a teen who happens to be able to talk with God. Before you groan and click to another article, let it be known Joan of Arcadia is a great show. Never turns preachy or sickeningly sweet. There are certain rules in the show that prevent it from being Touched by an Angel . There is no miracle that saves her if she gets in trouble. There is no miracle where Joan's brother jumps out of his wheelchair fully healed and no signs that this is going to happen. Lots of humor and very good w...

While reading over some Joeuser articles I noticed that there was a surprising lack of support for universal suffrage. In the comments section I listed my opinion that universal suffrage is necessary. I went on a soapbox a couple times and wrote a bit on my beliefs. The social evolution of the United States voting requirements changed through the centuries. Requirements were at first, only white male landowners, then white males, then women and blacks, finally the United States' proud achi...

There was a discussion on the Usenet freeware group about " Who Uses ALL FREEWARE? ". Pricelessware List : many freeware programs that have been voted as so valuable and useful that they get called "Pricelessware". I have chosen a few programs below that I use and think are great and may or may not be listed above. Most of the following programs can be found using Google.com. (I am too lazy to look up all the links for these programs but a few seconds effort can make life easier for you...
